WARNING: If you got to this page from my main photo site, and/or you were one of the folks at the event, you may want to bookmark this page (and/or link to it from some other page); I don't expect to take it down or change its location, but I'll probably stop linking to it from my main page at some point in the not too distant future (at which point I'll also remove this ugly warning thing).

FYI: While I'm still in the progress of getting things on-line, I'll put status updates at the bottom of the page.

Also, if you would like higher-resolution[1] versions of particular images, and/or to have information about any other images I may have taken but not put on-line (but perhaps wait until I'm done putting stuff up, first, for that), or would like to help me identify people in these photos, or otherwise have any feedback for me, please send e-mail to misc-devmeet [at] daveltd.com (after doing the obvious munging, of course). I'd be happy to hear from you.

Seattle devMEET 1(a) -- 2005-10-15

On the 15th of October, 2005, was what I believe is said to be the first devMEET (i.e. a meeting up of folks who frequent[0] deviantART.com) in Seattle. Well the first half of the first Seattle devMEET, anyway -- another meeting is scheduled for the 16th, as well.

There was a sign:

It helped us gather together. (Hmm, and if you look closely... is that a sponsor's product placement going on there?)

Sign and sponsorship

There were a bunch of people:

Here's a group shot of most folks:

most folks

Some folks were busy taking the group pictures, though:

group photographers

(And probably a few others hadn't shown up yet, and of course I'm not in the picture, etc.)

Oh, and there was also some chaos (can you tell?):

Group Chaos

And even some sex (yeah, well, not really, but... See the lower-right side, with "Punk Goddess" Kelli and Daniel (the guy with the rainbow boa around his head).)

Group 'sex'

The weather was mild:

There was no sign of rain, and only a very little wind -- though the latter did give one slight scare that a sign might blow away:

Uh-oh! The sign moved on my head!

A reach is made... Will she get it on time???

Kelli reacts... will she be on time?

Fret not! she's on it; that sign's not going anywhere:

The sign does *not* blow away, thanks to careful care

And then...

Various activities ensued:

People ran around:

Well, mostly only Daniel actually ran anywhere, but he ran with enthusiasm! And jumped! (Look carefully, and note the distance between those feet and the ground. In case you need help: he's over the red bricks, not the grey.) These things count for something, and make up for the (comparative) tranquility (don't be offended, deviants, I said comparative!) of the rest of the group.

Daniel runs around, with the devMEET sign on his head

Other people were more stationary:

Here's [8-bit] Jack, emulating a gargoyle: (I'm not sure what the meaning of the pumpkin is, exactly, but I'm sure it's significant. The nametags, though, are just there, and mean nothing. I'm telling you, ignore the package of nametags. I won't warn you again!)

Hair was mussed:

In a fairly general way:

hair being mussed

And going for the mohawk look (also blowing on it to try to get the gel to set):

mohawk being formed

Mirrors were shared:

(So people could tell how their goatee-jelling had worked)

mirrors were shared

Random clothing was used... randomly:

Yeah, I think that's a skirt going onto Elizabeth's head.

Elizabeth dons a skirt onto her head

Silly string was applied:

The mad sprayer, caught in the act (having shed the skirt; I guess it interferes with the silly string somehow? I'm not quite clear on that part):

silly string gets sprayed

Hey, look, silly string is fun to eat! Who knew?

silly string is fun to eat!

Oh. Then again... maybe not so much, actually:

silly string is *NOT* fun to eat!

The victim count was more than one:

another silly string victim

Makeup was applied:

And lashes curled:

makeup was applied, and lashes curled

The results were, of course, simply fabulous (and colorful, but a lot of that is just the rainbow boa, which was there before the makeup, so it doesn't really count as part of "the results"... just as part of the whole package that is Daniel (the nametag is proof that it's still him).):

Daniel, all made up

Cameras fell in love:

Awwwww, isn't that sweet? The cameras <3 eachother (and so do their owners!)

Camera Love

People got tired:

Even well before the day was done, people started showing signs of fatigue... some reclined against a post, while waiting for a light to change:

Apple reclines against a passing post (ok, the post didn't
actually pass, it was we who were moving)

others simply tried to get more oxygen:

Kelli yawns (note: this yawn is fake, but there was a real one,
too; I was just too slow with my camera to catch it.)

Fountains were jumped in:

Yeah, they got wet (see evidence of wetness, below):

Fountains were jumped in

Oh, and the fountain fights back:

fountain fights back, attacking Apple

Seriously, it fights back! We have proof! Look what it did to poor Apple:

Apple's leg, fountain casualty

Daniel is not pleased (but is wet!), and vows to get the fountain back for this meanness (Apple seems to simply be amused, though... well, and wet):

Daniel being fierce, Apple just amused

DDR was also played:

Which doesn't involve quite as much jumping, but boy, look at those feet go!

DDR was played

More to come...

OK, so, I'm going through all the images I took (302 in total), and preparing them (well, some of them -- some of them aren't worth posting, I deem) for viewing on-line. Watch this space for more pics, coming soon.

Latest status update:

(Primarily for those of you re-loading the page. I see you! ;-)

OK, so... I've pretty much added most (but not quite all) of my favorite (and/or most story-telling) images by now. And I've been meaning to go through and add more, but I've been slacking (why use the excuse that I've been busy?), so...

Here's another page with a bunch more images, in a mostly unorganized manner, without captions, etc. But it's something. Enjoy.

That said, I do still hope to do some more updates at some point, and integrate some of those images into this page, and/or make some other organizations for them. I also want to link to folks' deviantART profiles and such... I've captured a few links for folks, and hope to set up a set of links at some point.

Also, this still isn't everything, so mail me if you're looking for anything in particular that you think I might have... (and yes, I know I still have at least one e-mail to respond to, still -- soon, I hope.)

Feedback welcome

Repeated from above, in case folks are reading the bottom of the page only, at this point: If you would like higher-resolution[1] versions of particular images, and/or to have information about any other images I may have taken but not put on-line (but perhaps wait until I'm done putting stuff up, first, for that), or would like to help me identify people in these photos, or otherwise have any feedback for me, please send e-mail to misc-devmeet [at] daveltd.com (after doing the obvious munging, of course). I'd be happy to hear from you.

Footnotes:

[0] -- well, and at least one random other person, myself, who was interested in learning more about deviantART, 'cause I keep hearing about it, but I haven't signed up or anything... at least not yet.

[1] -- I did the shoot in several resolutions, but all of them were less than the full capacity of my camera, because, well, I only have a small memory card right now (something I plan to remedy before too long, but haven't done so yet), and I wanted to make sure I had room to take lots of pictures... But, still, all the images on this site are lower resolution than what I shot them at (though some not by very much, because cropping has also been done), so...

P.S. While I have not yet ventured to create an account on DA, I do have at least one thing that you might consider to be "deviant art": A wall clock that stares at you. (See also the links below, if you're interested in my artistic expression. Not necessarily "deviant".)
