Favorite ("Chorus") Punch (serves 24)

1 Ingredients:

1
12 oz. can frozen orange juice
1
12 oz. can frozen pineapple-grapefruit juice1
8 cups (1.89L)
water
1 1/2 cups (300g)
sugar
5
ripe bananas (about 750-1000g, including peels, 500-700g after peeling)
2 quarts (1.89L)
club soda, chilled2

2 Supplies/tools:

1
1 gallon mixing vessel (pitcher ideal, bowl works too)
2
1/2 gallon milk containers
1
large spoon or similar for mixing (something strong enough to mix slushy mixture)
1
blender
1
punch bowl and ladle for serving (or use the pitcher used for mixing)

3 Steps:

  1. In a 1-gallon container, mix the water and sugar.
  2. Stir in the frozen juices.
  3. Blend the five ripe bananas, using some of the liquid juice mixture, until very smooth.
  4. Add bananas to juices and stir, making sure everything is well mixed.
  5. Pour into two 1/2 gallon milk cartons (washed) and freeze.
  6. About 4 to 5 hours before serving, remove the milk cartons from the freezer to thaw (at room temperature).
  7. Just before serving, stir the contents of the cartons until slush is uniform.
  8. Place in punch bowl and slowly add the 2 bottles2 of chilled club soda.
  9. Stir and serve.

4 Notes

This makes a very refreshing, thirst-quenching punch that is equally popular with kids and adults.

Footnotes:

1

If one can't find this combined juice, one can buy a 12 oz can of each pineapple juice and grapefruit juice, and use a half can of each. This is especially suited to doing two batches, of course, so the cans still get used completely, half-can in each batch.

2

One may find 2-liter bottles available in the store, instead of 1-quart bottles… theoretically, don't quite use the whole thing in that case, and of course, even if one does use the whole thing, it's only (most of) 1 bottle, instead of 2 bottles.
