so, driving along towards davis...

Back in cell phone range, Chris calls Leanne. The whole van
says, "Hi", except Adam, who's asleep.

We're thinking we'll find the next clue and then wander off to a
Denny's or something, and perhaps a Safeway or the like as well.

So, looks like California actually turns into Old David Rd, and
so we'll have to find the point where it switches... perhaps
there will be vans.

So, we're wondering... is Davis alive at 00:40? We'll find out
soon, we suppose. There are a ferw cars wandering about, now
that we're on the loop.

Oops, missed California... Let's try that again...

People out playing tennis -- more signs of life.

Heh, and we ran into a dead end. Backtracking to try to find a
different way to get there... We passed where the davis loop
thing turned off of the street we're on (what is it? Ahh,
Russell...), so perhaps we'll go back to where that was and try
that route.

And now, after turning around yet aain, we turn on to
Anderson... Some sort of public utilities van or security van
or something (amber light strip on the roof) was on Russell...
but no, they're not following us. :-)

Uh oh, there's a van, with a light on inside... I guess they've
gotten the clue already.

Cool, we're here!

So, on the back of the nearest "Davis Loop" sign to the
intersection, we see the following two pieces of paper:

1) [Wonka logo on left hand side]

	resource 'STR#' (kWonkaStrings)
	{
	    {
	    "1st",
	    "and",
	    "A",
	    "St"
	    }
	};

		[in script below:] Look in the bushes to your right.

2)

Str255 partA, partB, partC, partD;

short i=0;
while(i <= kNumOompaLoompas)
{
    GetIndString(partA, kWonkaStrings + i, 1);
    GetIndString(partB, kWonkaStrings + i, 2);
    GetIndString(partC, kWonkaStrings + i, 3);
    GetIndString(partD, kWonkaStrings + i, 4);
    i++;
}

So, we're thinking of looking in the bushes to our right if we
go to 1st and A streets? We can't seem to find much here,
including with the various other teams looking as well...

Also, we got an update on the accident. Apparently one team (I
can't remember their team name at the moment) was there at the
scene (arriving shortly after the accident had happened) and two
of the people who'd been involved in the accident actually ended
up getting treated by the paramedic types while in their van!

I don't know about everyone else, but fatigue is setting in with
me. My brain is just ready for sleep. Perhaps I'll nap a bit
at some point, I don't know. Adam seems to be taking naps from
time to time, and lying down when he's not. I think I'm a bit
jealous.  ;-)

Just called GCON, they say... Well, here's what comes from
Chris, partially directly from GCON, partially through his
interpretation, guesses, etc:

The code is going to move us algorithmically around the davis
loop. What we should have found in the bushes was a paper copy
of the code.

At first and A, there's supposed to also ... no, there _is_ also
some more code, written on the back of another davis loop sign.

This may be a long series of easy clues. That would be good,
considering my state of mind. ;-)

Next clue says:

resource 'STR#' (kWonkaStrings + 1)
{
    {
    "In median past",
    "Russel Blvd",
    "and",
    "Howard Way"
    }
};

Next:

resource 'STR#' (kWonkaStrings + 2)
{
    {
    "Left on",
    "LaRue",
    "to 25 yds past",
    "Hutchinson and LaRue"
    }
};

Next:
resource 'STR#' (kWonkaStrings + 3)
{
    {
    "A St",
    "and",
    "Old",
    "Davis Rd"
    }
};

Next:

resource 'STR#' (kWonkaStrings + 4) {
    {
    "Russel",
    "Blvd",
    "and",
    "A St"
    }
};

Next:

#define kNumOoompaLoompas = 5;
resource 'STR#' (kWonkaStrings + 5) {
    {
    "Bicycle at",
    "Russell Blvd",
    "and",
    "LaRue"
    }
};

Well, there's a bike in a section of lockers at Russell and
Laue, but I'm skeptical that it is anything real... But there's
got to be something here somewhere...

OK, we found it... it was past the intersection a little ways.

It gave us some dancing men, which took us to Sacramento to a
lightpost exhibit, where we got a lightbulb, which gave us the
clue we needed to get to the next clue, at 38.25'01.2"W,
121.31'30.3"

At this clue, we get:

A largeish lollipop... This is really clue 8 now.

Hint: McDonalds on Pocket road near I5, Drive-through entrance
on top of the trash can, "use the golf driver" (??)

Hint is: Use the metric system.

Going over to clue 8 page.
